It’s easy to get to the Tonto Basin Inn.
From North Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale. Beeline Highway (Hwy 87) north to the Highway 188 exit (where the rest area is). Follow 188 for 17 miles (through Jake’s Corner and Punkin Center). You’ll see the Tonto Basin Inn on the right side of the road at milepost 260.
From Globe/Miami, Superior Arizona. Take Highway 188 for about 30 miles north of Globe.
From Payson and the Rim. Take Highway 87 south to the Highway 188 (rest area) exit. Follow 188 for 15 miles (through Jake’s Corner and Punkin Center). You’ll see the Tonto Basin Inn on the right side of the road at milepost 260.
From the East Valley by way of the Apache Trail Route. It’s about a 60 mile, slow drive, but very scenic. You will be on a winding dirt road along the northern edges of the Superstition Mountains for much of the drive. Roosevelt Dam and Roosevelt Lake. At the end of this road you will reach Highway 188 by the Roosevelt Dam. Turn left and continue approximately 10 miles until you reach milepost 260 (about 1 mile past The Butcher Hook). The Tonto Basin Inn will be on your left.
For hikers from the ARIZONA SCENIC TRAIL, access is at Mile 345.9 � Roosevelt Marina and Forest Service Visitor Center just off the trail. Tonto Basin is 16 miles North on Hwy 188.
